The Palm Beach Gator Snow Ski Club is a group of active, fun-loving, sports-minded people who live in sunny South Florida (mainly Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast), but also share a love for winter activities. Our founding fathers adopted the alligator logo because of its association with South Florida. They did not intend to emulate any University or College.

Where would you like to ski in 2018?

This is the time of the year when we begin to plan the ski program for the next season, in this case 2018.

Our Club has decided to participate in both Florida Ski Council domestic ski trips in 2018.

The FSC January trip is to Steamboat, Colorado. January 20-27, 2018.  We are planning for 60 spots and staying at Dulany at the Gondola (Ski In/Walk Out)*.

The FSC February trip is to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  February 24-March 3, 2018.  We will have 32 spots and staying at Teton Village Condominiums (5 min shuttle to lifts)*.

We are considering participating in the International FSC Ski Trip to Sierra Nevada, Spain, in January 2018, but are waiting on the results of the FAM trip taken by FSC representatives.

To these 2 or 3 FSC trips, we would like to add approx. 3 or 4 Club trips.

I would like to know where you are interested in going!

Please send me a list of your 3 favorite destinations via e-mail so I can take your preferences into account while planning.

Thank you!

PRESIDENT: Sharon Long is running unopposed:

Hey Gators!

I am honored to serve a second term as your President.  Thanks to the Board’s leadership and hard work, this year has been wonderful.  Your officers are planning an active season of ski trips, special activities events and social events for your enjoyment.  Your new Board will continue to provide you with a great experience.  We appreciate your support.

For positions that don't have a candidate, capable members have volunteered to be appointed, so we will have dedicated and enthusiastic leadership next year.  If you would like to volunteer for one of the open positions, please contact me.

We need volunteers. If you would like to do more to help the club, please contact your Board Members.

Respectfully,

Sharon Long, President

VICE PRESIDENT / SKI TRIPS: Patti Bochniak is running unopposed:

I joined the Club in 1999 and am currently serving as Event Comptroller. I previously served as Secretary and Communications Director, led two ski trips, and assisted on one.

I am on the Finance Committee, working closely with the Treasurer, Past Treasurer & VP's  to keep our finances in order. I helped reconcile last year's ski trips & assisted with the planning & securing of air for this year's trips.

I lead by example, am very organized and think outside of the box. I learn from others so I can become the BEST at what I do, I teach anyone willing to learn, have fun at what I do, and, most importantly, I TRUST, but VERIFY.

I am looking forward to serving once again as VP of Ski Trips.

VICE PRESIDENT / SPECIAL ACTIVITIES: There is no candidate running for this office.  This office will be filled by appointment by the newly appointed Board of Directors at the first meeting of the new fiscal year on June 1st.

MEMBER AT LARGE: Cheryl Barnes is running unopposed:

As your current MEMBER AT LARGE, it is my honor and pleasure to run as your representative for the upcoming term.  My goal is to serve all of the Gator Members by being your liaison between the Board and the Membership. I will bring all of your questions, concerns, issues and suggestions to the Board in an unbiased, open and transparent way, putting the interest of the members first.

I have been an active member since 2008 and have attended many ski trips, non ski trips and I have met many of you at happy hours and meetings.  I have a passion for helping people with honesty, integrity and values.

I ask for your vote and you can count on me to offer responsible solutions for our challenges.

Calling for Volunteers for
TRIP LEADERS for the 2017-2018
Ski Season

In the next few weeks, we will be nominating Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees for the 2017-2018 ski season.

We are a Club run entirely by volunteers, and we need YOU to consider fulfilling one of our most important roles: Trip Leader! for any of our wonderful ski trips.

Trip Leaders have many responsibilities: help sell the trip, manage the accounting, set up parties on the mountain, problem-solve at all times. The Trip Leader puts the interests of the group always first, and is the captain, caretaker and cheerleader for the trip. For all this, you earn the benefit of going on the trip COST FREE* and an invaluable leadership training opportunity.

Assistant Trip Leaders that assist in trips with over 48 participants receive the benefit of going on the trip at a 50% DISCOUNT*. Assistants on trips with less than 48 participants are considered Trip Leader Trainees and receive no benefit.

However, and more importantly, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trip Leader Trainees get the training and qualifications to be a Trip Leader the following season or any time afterwards.

Note: *trips require that a certain number of spots be sold in order for the Trip Leader or Assistant Trip Leader to obtain their full benefit. If trip is undersold in spite of due diligence, compensation will be prorated.

At this time, we only have the details of the Florida Ski Council trips that our Club intends to join (*details subject to change). More trips will be added - please keep an eye on our announcements.

We are considering participating in the International FSC Ski Trip to Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 11-18, 2018 but pricing is not yet in. The FAM (familiarization trip) reports were very favorable.

For Trip Leader, you qualify if you have been an Assistant Trip Leader or a Trip Leader before (except if you led a trip this last season). The requirement of having been an Assistant may be waived by the Board of Directors if you have other proven leadership qualities. For Assistant Trip Leader and Trainee, you qualify if you have been a member in good standing for at least one year and have participated in at least one trip.

In order to do your job, it is a must that you own a computer and that you are able to use e-mail (including sending attachments), and can work with Excel spreadsheets in order to manage the trip accounting.

Empathy, responsibility, energy, caring, are the qualities of a successful trip leader.

Trip Leaders, Assistant Trip Leaders and Trainees will be required to attend 3 or 4 training sessions.
